Last time, on AlienVamp...

Let the Watcher's Diary of Aidan O'Shea and the Journal of Liz Parker guide you through the happenings on the AlienVamp rpg.

Watcher's Diary #1:

After my promotion to Active Watcher and being assigned to help Faith track down the super vampires coming out of the small town of Roswell, New Mexico, I was on top of the world. Yes, I knew Faith and I would have to work hard to keep our relationship professional (unbeknownst to the Council, Faith and I had a brief romance while I was still a Watcher-in-Training), but I knew we could do it. And, with the help of Jeffery, Amy, Doyle, Xander, Cordelia, Oz, and Jessica, I knew our mission would be a rousing sucess. How could it not be with such talented people on my team?

Xander came ahead to scout, and then the rest of us relocated quietly, so as not to draw undue attention to ourselves. I took a job as guidance counsellor at West Roswell High, Xander took a job at the Crashdown Cafe -- a local teen hang out, Jeffery and Jessica enrolled at the University of New Mexico at Roswell, Doyle took a job teaching third grade, and the younger members of our group, except for Faith, enrolled at the high school to begin their senior year.

We began to scout out the town and immediately found some incongruities. Tabloid archives -- one of the best sources for supernatural news, believe it or not -- gave a detailed account of a waitress who was miraculously healed of a gun shot wound at the Crashdown. Her name was Liz Parker, and her savior was named Max Evans. A few questions were asked, and I dug around in my counselling predecessor's files, and a small group of students was discovered to be frequently present for strange events. I challenged my group to investigate them: Max Evans, Liz Parker, Isabel Evans, Michael Guerrin, Maria DeLuca, and Alex Whitman. If anyone knew what was going on in the supernatural community in Roswell, I theorized that those who could heal like Max Evans was reputed to would know. Sorcerers and the like tend to keep an eye on local vampires and demons. Imagine our surprise to discover that the house Amy and Jeffery bought with money from their recently deceased father's estate was located right next door to the Evans' abode.

However, as we investigated further, things began to deteriorate. The local vampire population was no help in locating the so-called super vampires -- vampires rumored to be super strong and have other powers, exactly what, we don't know because we haven't found one yet. The local vampires have called the super vampires everything from gods to aliens, none of which we can take seriously. I also had a run in with someone who, despite her looks, was not a typical high school student. Tess Harding immediately joined the suspect list. I have theorized that she is some kind of demon, though vampire has been ruled out because of numerous sightings of her in the sun. Jessica and Jeffery did some scouting as well. They investigated Tess Harding's house and found out something interesting. Spike, our old nemesis, is in town, and he's living with Tess Harding!

Willow came to town to deliver something to me from Giles, my former mentor, and to attend the local Crash Festival. However, the Ammulet of Nerilka that Giles sent was stolen from my locked briefcase in my locked desk in my locked office before Willow could teach me to use it. Then, as the super vampire leads were drying up and our investigations of Max Evans and crew proved fruitless, Faith disappeared. The only note she left read, "Adios!" Luckily, Buffy had come because of a run-in with a super vampire back in Sunnydale. Giles assigned her to stay here with me. There has been a significant decrease of Hellmouth activity as of late, so Giles said he could handle things with those he has left. Buffy and I have an uneasy truce, which, I hope will develop into trust. If only I knew where Faith has vanished to. I'm very worried for her.

Journal Entry #1:

My name is Liz Parker, and I think that my life has gone crazy... again. Breaking up with Max last spring was hard to do, but I did it. I had to. He has a destiny, and it does not include me. Things were lonely in town while he, Isabel, Alex, and Maria were away pursuing various summer activities, but Michael and I managed, and actually formed a really cool friendship. But now they're all back. Michael and Maria are all lovey-dovey again, and I think Max wants us to get back together, but I just can't. I still love him, but it will only lead to more pain, right? But I couldn't resist getting all dolled up for the first day of school, just to show him what he's missing!

Then, while I'm dealing with all this trauma in my love life, Roswell has suddenly been plagued with two strange things: disappearances and new people. Over the summer, several people just vanished for no reason. Most were transients, but some were tourists, and a couple were local citizens. Michael's art teacher is the latest victim. No one knows why, not even Sheriff Valenti. And, if that weren't bad enough, there are suddenly a whole bunch of new people in town. One of them, Xander, seems OK. He works grill at the Crashdown, and the girl Dad had me hire to waitress, Jessica, seems OK as well, but there are so many of them... I hope it's not some government operation. Nacedo is supposed to be closing down the FBI Special Unit, but I still worry. I also hope it's not an alien invasion. Maybe Roswell is just on a growth spurt?

Watcher's Diary #2:

The annual Roswell Crash Festival is a tribute to aliens and insanity, but this year there were darker undertones. We all donned costumes (the only one left at the costume shop in my size without sequins or spandex was a Vulcan costume, so I endured, pointy ears and all), and infiltrated the teeming crowds. In an act of desperation, I had some of my group entice Liz Parker to Oz's van, and there we informed her of the basic truth of vampires. She, Max, and all the rest are so closed-mouthed, I knew we needed to do something to get the truth from them. She didn't believe us at first, until she ran into a vampire of her very own, and Buffy and Xander saved her. Liz and Isabel Evans agreed to find Max and meet us at the WRH football field.

However, before Xander, Buffy, and I could make the meeting, tragedy struck. We're all still reeling, especially Jeffery. After discovering Harmony Kendall was in town with relatives, Jeffery invited Harmony to attend the festival with him. He didn't tell me it was a date, but I could see that glint in his eyes. The boy had grown up considerably since his father's death. But the relationship was doomed. Unbeknownst to any of us, our old nemesis Ezechia "Zeke" Summers was in town and ready to make trouble. She made more than her fair share of it. She killed Harmony. Snapped the girl's neck like a twig. Willow, Jeffery, and some of the others held Zeke for a while, but what can you do to stop someone who can't die? Not much. She escaped. We will have to find a way to deal with her, and soon. Zeke is a loose cannon that needs to be stopped.

Once the chaos died down and the police went to file their reports, Xander, Buffy, and I regrouped for our meeting at the football field, with unexpected results.

Journal Entry #2:

Remind me to skip the Crash Festival next year, please?

But, let me start sooner. The afternoon was really frustrating. Michael and Maria totally ditched work, leaving me with a full diner and only the two newbies -- Xander and Jessica -- to help. I'm glad Michael and Maria are back together and everything, but leaving friends in the lurch is not cool.

When Michael got to my house, however, I had to forgive him. He might have been killing time in the Eraser Room (or something!) with Maria at school, but, on his way to work, something attacked him in a dark alley. It bit him on the neck and drained some of his blood. Isn't that insane? I found him passed out in my room, and I called Isabel and Max immediately. Michael isn't on the best of terms with them right now -- he's still upset that they left him alone all summer -- but there wasn't any choice. They came, and Max healed Michael. We theorized that some sort of alien was behind the attack.

Then, before we could even talk about what we were going to do at the Crash Festival, Michael, Maria and I encountered a blonde girl named Buffy Summers who claimed to be a Slayer. Of course, we assumed she meant she was an Alien Slayer and fought back. She was strong, though. She threw Michael into a wall with no sweat. He got in some good licks, too. I scared the Alien Slayer off by calling Sheriff Valenti. The sheriff did some research and found out that where Buffy Summers goes, trouble follows. We're going to keep an eye on her.

And then there's the weird ammulet Michael found when he and Maria snooped around in the new guidance counsellor's office. It gave him a vision, so he stole it. If only we could figure out what it's for.

I had just put on my pink, sequiny costume for the festival when Michael got a call from the Child Welfare office, and he and Maria split without telling us what was going on. I hope it was nothing about his emancipation! That left Max, Isabel, and I to search the Crash Festival. We split up, hoping to figure out what all the newcomers were up to. There is a whole group of them, and some of them live next door to Isabel. She saw the new guidance counsellor there, too, which links him to the group. Not surprising. After Topolsky, I knew that guidance counsellors could never be trusted.

When I saw Xander, I knew it was the perfect opportunity for me to pick his brain. I knew he was connected to all the rest of the newcomers. He'd claimed some as friends, and one -- a gorgeous brunette who could rival Isabel for model perfection -- is his girlfriend. Maybe I was so intent on my spying that I didn't realize he was leading me off. Normally, I'm not so ditzy. But, suddenly, I found myself hoisted into a huge van on the edge of the Festival grounds. Inside the van were some of the newcomers, including Mr. O'Shea. They told me why they were in town. They were here to catch vampires. Buffy Summers wasn't an Alien Slayer, she was a Vampire Slayer. Of course, I thought they were crazy. So did Isabel, who was eavesdropping outside the van. They wanted me to tell them about Max, but they didn't hold me against my will once they'd told their story, so I left. But, on my way back to the festival, something attacked me. Something with big teeth and a bumpy forehead. Xander and Buffy saved my life. And Isabel's. We promised to get Max and meet Mr. O'Shea, Xander and Buffy at the football field. Little did we know what we were getting ourselves in to!

Watcher's Diary #3:

Faith is back! Thank the lord! I was never more relieved to see someone... until she tried to run me down with my own car.

Let me explain in detail. Xander, Buffy, and I went to meet Max and his friends at the football field. The meeting started off well, aside from an encouter with Tess Harding (I was worried when Max claimed her as a friend, but later events showed that maybe he is trustworthy anyway). I leveled with them about who we were. I didn't give them all the details, but I gave them enough. Max was skeptical, but, if ever a vampire attack was providential, the attack on Liz was. Now she's a believer. I knew that they were hiding something from us, though, so I asked them point blank: Was Max a sorcerer? Max confirmed it. He is a sorcerer, which explains the healing. Before the meeting was over, though, we had some nasty surprises. Angel showed up -- still human, from that 'temporary' spell cast long before I came to Sunnydale. But he was attacked by a vampire. I didn't think he would be dead, but he looked dead. Buffy got hysterical and ran off to find the vampire than had attacked him. Isabel and Xander followed her, leaving Max, Liz, and I with Angel's body. Then, Oz showed up and punched me in the face without provocation. Something has seriously disturbed that young man. Max helped pull him off of me, which I respected, since Max doesn't know me. Then we heard Liz shout a warning. Faith was there. She'd stolen my car and was trying to run us down on the field. Max tried to stop her with his powers, but he failed. Faith picked up Oz, and they stole Angel's body and drove off. Needless to say, Buffy was not happy. She left for a little hunting. I'm worried about them all: Faith, Oz, Angel, and Buffy.

When things calmed down, Max gave us a ride to the Madisons' house -- dropping Liz off on the way. When we got there, Amy, Doyle, and Jeffery (who was looking a little better than the last time I'd seen him) were there. I was able to rid myself of the ridiculous Vulcan costume while Amy pumped Max about being a sorcerer and Xander and Isabel talked in the kitchen. Amy wasn't able to disprove the sorcerer story, so we will believe it, for now. I still think they are hiding something from us, but, at least communications have been opened.

Journal Entry #3:

I can now say I've been kicked in the stomach and almost run down by a rogue Vampire Slayer. I don't know what's with this Faith chick, but she made me really appreciate Buffy, despite earlier confrontations, when she attacked us at the football field. When I met her last night at the Crashdown, she didn't seem so... well... insane. And this Oz guy has a real rage problem. If all the former Sunnydale residents were like them, I would cross them off the list of allies for good. Luckily, some of them are nice, and really seem to be doing their best to save the world from the things that go bump in the night.

I can't believe it. I, Liz Parker, future microbiologist, science-lover, and friend to aliens now believes in vampires, demons, sorcerers, witches, etc. And I thought my life couldn't get any weirder after Max healed me last year. I thought the same thing last spring when we found out the truth about the Royal Four. Goes to show I should never say never.

Max decided to give them a story about being a sorcerer. I don't know anything about sorcery, but it's probably for the best. Who's to know if they would hunt aliens like they hunt vampires? We need to get to know them before Max, Isabel, and Michael trust them with that kind of secret. But... I can't help liking some of them. Even Mr. O'Shea (who said we could call him Aidan when we're not at school), doesn't seem so bad.

I'll admit, I was a little jealous when Max dropped me off at home after the whole football field thing. I wanted to be a part of this new stuff. But the new thing I learned when I got home was definitely worth being excluded (it was exclusion, even if Max was trying to protect me).

Michael has a little sister! Her name is Dawn, and she's 14 years old. They were cooking a midnight snack in the Crashdown when Max dropped me off. That call from Child Welfare was about her. Apparently, Dawn is Hank Guerrin's daughter from a previous marriage, or a previous girlfriend or something. Since Hank left Roswell last year and no one knows where he's gone, Michael is the closest thing she has to a relative now that her mother is dead. She's a smart little thing with a big mouth, but I like her. Michael, the big softie that he is, agreed to take her. I understand, though. After his experiences with the foster care system, I wouldn't want someone like Dawn going there, either. Now we're just going to have to deal with someone not "in the know" about the whole alien thing living right in the middle of it in Michael's one bedroom apartment.

Watcher's Diary #4:

My second day of school was significantly easier than the first. There were fewer schedule changes, and I haven't seen Tess Harding in at least 12 hours. I wonder what she's up to, though. She and Spike could probably cause some major trouble in town.

I managed to find my car last night. Faith had abandoned it on a residential street. It was pure luck that I found it, but I took it back as quickly as possible.

It turns out that my theory about Angel was right. Because it was only the spell keeping him human, when he was changed into a vampire again, he soul came back. Now he's just like he used to be. I suppose he and Buffy will have to reconsider their relationship again. Things had been good between them while he was human and in no danger of losing his soul, but now... I'm just glad he's not dead. I wasn't 100% sure what would happen, so having him back as a vampire and a powerful ally is better than not having him at all.

Tensions are high between Buffy and myself right now. She misses Giles, and is uncomfortable around me. We talked about it, but didn't reach much of a solution. Just getting things out in the air helped, though. I think, eventually, we will be able to trust each other. Unless the Hellmouth becomes active again, and Giles needs her to come home. He, Joyce, and the others are enough to look after things right now.

Something strange happened this afternoon at lunch. After setting up a mission for Buffy, Xander, Amy, and Jeffery to try and kidnap Spike (he's bound to know about the super vampires, or why else would he be here!) after school, I was quietly eating my cafeteria food when a found a golden sphere on the ground. It radiates an aura of the mystical. I have secreted it in my desk, and hope that it, too, will not be stolen before I can investigate it. I didn't have a choice about leaving it there, though, because -- surprise, surprise -- Faith showed up at my office. I had just called Giles to inform him of the latest news and ask his advice on what to do about her when she walked in the door. I don't want to have to call a Council team to come take her back to England for reprogramming. That would destroy everything I love about Faith. So, when she showed up, I dropped everything to talk to her.

I don't know if talking to Faith helped. We went over a lot of stuff this afternoon, but every time I thought I made a breakthrough, she closed up on me. But, when we discovered that Buffy was missing, she helped Angel and me search for her. I count that a good sign. The bad sign is that I haven't seen her since.

When I found Buffy walking along the street, I took her to the hospital. A man named Ben, who seemed way to young to me to be a doctor, checked her out and pronounced her healthy. Buffy told me that a blonde girl with the strength of the supernatural had kidnapped her. This person's name is Glory, and she is looking for some sort of key. This does not bode well in my mind. Buffy couldn't even fight her. Glory knocked her about, but Buffy did manage to overpower Glory's minions and escape. Then, more strangeness occurred. Buffy passed out in an alley, and when she woke up a girl who looked just like Tess Harding -- but claimed to be named Ava -- was crouched over her. Buffy thinks that this Ava healed her. There was a silver hand print on Buffy's arm, which sounds similar to the markings rumored to be on Liz Parker's stomach after Max healed her last year, according to the tabloids anyway. Could we have a sorceress in town as well?

I'm just glad that Buffy seems to have suffered no ill effects from her incarceration. She is fit and able to continue on our next mission: kidnapping Spike and making him tell us, once and for all, what is going on in this bloody town!

Journal Entry #4:

After everything that happened yesterday, I thought today would be full of even more trauma. That's how things tend to go here. But, instead, I had a great morning. Michael and I played hookey, and we took Dawn to the mall to buy her some clothes. She only had the stuff on her back. I like that kid, and she seems to be great for Michael.

Tess and I had a little showdown at lunch today, after Michael, Dawn, and I arrived at school. I never liked her, but she seems to have gotten even more belligerant, if such a thing is possible.

After school, Michael, Maria and I had to work, and it's been crazy. Kyle came in. I hadn't seen him since Max healed him, so I was glad to talk to him today. He seems OK, though he seemed to freak out for a little while in response to some... negative energy. He had to go into the back room and meditate. He did some martial-arts-looking stuff, too, and then he was fine. I wonder what that's all about. He invited us to go to a party after the football game tonight, so maybe I'll find out. I also met Kyle's cousin, Rachel. She seems nice. She's living with the Valenti's now.

Max, Isabel, and I finally got to tell the others about the vampires. They weren't too eager to believe. Max had to go call Nacedo to prove to them that the vampires aren't some sort of alien. Nacedo said that the Royal Four's enemies have to struggle to live on Earth, so super strength is out of the question, and no alien that he knows of drinks human blood. I guess that means that Aidan and the others are on the level. Max is going on patrol with Buffy tonight, so I hope he learns more. Max and Isabel are also planning to dreamwalk Aidan. They want to find out if we can trust them enough to tell them the truth about aliens.

Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed some weird vibes lately between Isabel and Xander. They always have their heads together. I wonder what that's all about. Cordelia seems to have noticed, as well, judging from the glares she's been giving Isabel this afternoon. Just another thing to chalk up to the chaos life has become in the past year. I don't think the chaos is ever going to end...

Watcher's Diary #5

Kidnapping Spike proved easier than anticipated, but interrogating him did not work out as planned. First Buffy got food poisoning, so Faith had to come with us instead. Xander, Amy, Jeffery, Faith, and I were able to get Spike chained and in the trunk of my car fairly quickly, but it took its toll on our spell casters. Amy and Jeffery both spent some time unconscious as a result. We don't know why, but they seem to be better now, except that Amy has a certain edginess about magic...

We learned something interesting on the way to Tess Harding's house to kidnap Spike. Faith confirmed to us that Tess is a vampire. She faced down with Tess her first night in Roswell. Add that to the fact that Tess is out and about in the sunlight, the working theory is that she is a super vampire. The bad news was that we saw Max and Tess having a conversation. Perhaps we were wrong to trust this errant sorcerer?

I tried to ellicit information from Spike about super vampires, but his stories changed faster than I could count. He knew nothing, he knew of them but couldn't find them, Tess wasn't on, she was, etc. Spike could neither confirm nor deny my new suspicions about Max, though Xander thinks Max is OK. Finally, we released Spike on orders to find the super vampires and tell us where their lair is. Willow is working on a locating spell so we can track him. I hate to let him leave Roswell alive, but we may have to bargain with the devil to find the truth about these super vamipres.

Journal Entry #5

We have clones. Alien clones to be exact. This afternoon, Michael asks me into the kitchen to help him find the pepperjack, and then he kissed me! And I liked it! He wanted to take me right there on the floor of the Crashdown's kitchen, with Maria waiting tables in the other room! I put a stop to it.

Later, I found out that it wasn't Michael at all, but his clone, Rath, from New York City. There are two other clones in town. Rath's partner Loni -- the Isabel duplicate, and Ava -- the Tess duplicate. Isabel has bonded with Ava, and says that she's trustworthy where the real Tess isn't. I don't know if I believe it. Ava seems pretty manipulative to me. She's been all over Kyle tonight. Not that I have any claims on Kyle, but at the football game... Kyle and I had a good long talk. I want to love Kyle again. Loving a normal boy and not an alien king or an alien duplicate would make my life so much easier. Why can't I just love Kyle?

Ava is now under Isabel, Max, and Michael's protection. Michael connected with her and found out that she was on the level when she said that the other clones abused her and she wanted to get away from them. There may be a showdown between our group and Rath and Loni. I try not to think about Rath. He's insane, right? These duplicates are very powerful, as well. Who knows what will happen?

Things with Michael and me are weird now, too, thanks to Rath! Why did he have to kiss me?

And I found something else out. Isabel is in love with Xander Harris. But, meanwhile, Xander and his girlfriend Cordelia are engaged! Talk about complicated. I don't envy her. Then again, thinking about my love life right now, maybe I should go for straight-forward cheating instead of alien angst.

Dawn found out about the whole alien thing, as well. Rath kidnapped her, but Michael and Max got her back. I don't know how she will take it. It's been OK so far, but I'm afraid she'll end up freaking out. I hope not. She's a good kid.

Max and I are supposed to talk later at the football party. I want to put that all behind me and get on with my life. There's nothing I can do about what happened with Rath, but Max and I are over. It's time we worked it out and figure out where we go from here.

Watcher's Diary #6

Angel has taken Buffy back to Sunnydale. Whatever made her sick, it wasn’t food poisoning. Considering the rarity with which a Slayer gets sick, something must be seriously wrong. I contacted Giles, and he insisted that Angel bring her home. Willow has left for home, as well, so between her magic skills, Giles’s knowledge, Angel’s devotion, and Joyce to give her a mother’s love, I know that Buffy is in good hands.

What this means, though, is that Faith is now the only Slayer in Roswell. She didn’t take the news very well. In fact, we had quite a row over the whole thing, ending with me slamming on the brakes of the car and Faith punching me in the face. We worked through it the best we could, but things are always difficult with Faith and I. I hope that she can adapt as well as I know is possible for her. She has as much strength and skill as Buffy, if only Faith could discipline herself a little more. Faith has moved in with a new friend named Alyssa. I don’t think Faith has confided her secret identity to this new friend, but I cannot be sure as Faith has not let me meet the girl.

Journal Entry #6

I’m Liz Parker, and this is going to be a LONG entry. So much has happened since the last time I wrote!

I didn’t get to spend more than 10 minutes at the football party. The normal teenager in me was sad. Having time to just party and have fun with my friends would have been so great, but, of course, that wasn’t going to happen in Roswell.

Kyle, Isabel, Alex, Ava, and I were just leaving the game when Max, Michael, Dawn, Tess, and Maria showed up (Maria came separately from the others). Rath and Loni had kidnapped Dawn. They had tracked the clones for a while -- and had a confrontation with this girl, Zeke (who looks like Buffy) and her friend Lindsey outside of Sr. Chow’s -- and then they got a lead. Max is getting good with the sneakiness. Apparently Loni was undercover as Isabel (which he found out thanks to a secret code word the real Isabel made up earlier), so he "traded" Isabel to Rath for Dawn and arranged to meet later at a small park in one of the residential areas to trade Ava for "Isabel." Rath had no choice but to agree or blow Loni’s cover.

Next, Max, Michael, and Dawn picked up Tess (Max had formed a truce/renewed friendship with her earlier this afternoon), who was strangely quiet the whole night -- she didn’t make fun of anyone once the whole evening -- for extra alien muscle. The NYC aliens have been able to develop their powers much more than the Roswell crew -- maybe because they didn’t have to worry about passing for human? There were some weird vibes between Tess and Ava. If I didn’t know that she had Michael, Isabel, and Max’s protection, I would think Ava was scared of Tess.

For a while, Max was actually going to do it. He was going to give Ava to Rath and Loni so they would get the hell out of Roswell. Isabel took up for Ava, though. And, while I don’t think I’ll ever be able to trust someone with Tess’s face, if half of what she says about these clones is true, she shouldn’t have to go back to them. Just thinking about it all makes my skin crawl. Earlier today Rath and I were making out! I told Isabel about it when she told me about her and Xander. I think maybe she and I are beginning to become real friends.

So, anyway, Michael and Ava formed a connection so he could find out if she was telling the truth. Michael believes her, and he and Isabel convinced Max that they couldn’t trade her away. Then Max, Michael, Isabel, and Ava left to go to the park to meet the evil clones. Maria, Dawn, Kyle, Alex, Kyle’s cousin Rachel, and I were supposed to go to the football party to wait for them. Once we got there, though, we ditched Rachel (who seems to have left town not long after that) and all of us (except for Alex, who never showed up at the party) headed for the park. We camped out in some trees across the street and tried to find out what was going on.

It was kind of a stand off. My memories are pretty blurry, considering what happened later, but I asked around to get the whole story. Rath and Ava got into a confrontation. They worked some alien mojo on each other (for example, Ava created a huge pit that Rath fell into). Max refused to give Ava up, and Michael, Tess, and Isabel backed him. Loni was preoccupied with this blonde guy named Spike. Apparently, Spike had been shacking up with Tess. And Xander was there, too, for some reason. He seemed very interested in Spike.

While we humans watched, suddenly Ava set the park on fire. I guess Rath scared her into it. I heard some screams, and started to run across the street to help. I didn’t even see the car coming. The drunk teenagers in the car must not have seen me, either. They plowed right into me. I remember the pain of the impact and flying backwards until the asphalt of the road broke my fall. Then... Rath. He got to me first (Max was on the other side of the fire), formed a connection -- a very deep connection -- and he healed me. When Max healed me, he used his powers to knit my body back together. When Rath did it, he wasn’t as skilled as Max at healing. He used not just his power, but his essence, to will me whole again. I had a lot of internal injuries and broken bones. It drained us both. But, before we both went unconscious completely, we saw into each other’s souls. Like the flashes, but more intense. It was like I lived through some of the things Rath lived through. He did some bad things in his life, really bad things. But really bad things were done to him, too, by Loni, by Zan (his Max), by adults that kids are supposed to be able to trust, like the police… Michael is so lucky compared to Rath!

Somewhere along the way, Ava healed Kyle and Maria from some damage taken when they tried to stop Rath from healing me. They didn’t know he was helping. Max would have ripped him off of me, but Ava said the connection was too deep, it would probably have killed us. Somewhere along the way that girl Nikki and her pal Oz showed up. I’m glad I was unconscious for that part! She rubs me the wrong way, and he... well, after what he did at the football field I think I have reason enough not to trust him. Max, Michael, Ava, and Dawn took Rath and me back to Michael’s apartment to take care of us until we woke up. They bound Rath with handcuffs made from silverware. I haven’t been home yet. I hope my parents don’t kill me!

Watcher's Diary #7

Saturday dawned quietly. After yesterday, I expected more fanfare. While grabbing a quick breakfast at the Crashdown, I ran into Oz. We actually spoke civilly to each other. He and his friend Nikki managed to dust several vamps last night at a club outside town called UFOnics. Maybe he, like Faith, will turn out to be an ally again in the long run.

When I got back to my still furniture-less apartment, however, I received a surprise. An intruder named Wesley Windham-Price, to be exact. He is here from the Council to check up on me. I don’t know what I could have done to undermine their trust in me. Since my promotion, I have done my utmost to achieve the desired results. We have only been in Roswell for, what, 4 days? We cannot be expected to have eliminated the super vampires yet! I only hope that he has not discovered my past relationship with Faith. Even though I was not a full Watcher when it happened so it was not technically against the rules, I don’t know if the Council will take that into consideration. I had to inform him about Buffy’s illness and assure him that Giles has things under control there. Mr. Windham-Price was not pleased with my handling of the Max Evans situation. I informed him that I had proceeded the best way I could. He offered to take the Max investigation off of my hands so I could concentrate on the super vampires. It wasn’t really a request. If only I knew why he was really here! I must speak to the others before he does.

Faith begrudgingly agreed to meet me at the Crashdown. I tried to tell her about Wesley, but before I could finish, Maria DeLuca appeared at our table. Things started innocently enough, with Faith (who did not know that Maria DeLuca is dating Michael Guerrin and that she is only 16) trying to convince her to go out with me. Somewhere along the line, Maria and Faith got into a squabble, and Faith ran out of the diner. I just hope that she does not run into Wesley before I can tell her about him. I am very scared for Faith. If he finds out some of the things she’s done since she came to Roswell (stealing Angel’s body, trying to run me down with my own car, etc.), I don’t know what will happen to her. Council rehabilitation would not work for her. She has to do this on her own, and she is making great strides toward this goal. If only Council interference doesn’t send her back the other direction.

Then, Maria surprised me by asking for my help. I gave her a ride to Michael’s apartment to help her find their friends. She had not heard from them since the night before. We ran into Isabel there. There were signs of a magic fight, and Max Evans slept an unnatural sleep in the otherwise empty apartment. Before I could do anything, though, he woke up and claimed to have experienced a vision from another sorcerer. Possible, I grant you, but somehow, I think he was lying.

They wouldn’t talk in front of me or take me into their confidence, so I left and ran across a girl in the parking lot. She was spying on Max and Isabel. Turns out she’s Oz’s friend, Nikki, the one who helped him bag the vampires at the club last night. She could prove to be a new ally, especially if she can get us information on the evasive Max Evans.

Journal Entry #7

When I woke up in Michael’s apartment, everything was quiet. Ava, Dawn, Michael, and Kyle were talking in the kitchen, and Max and Rath were still asleep. The good news was, despite a dizzy spell or two, I seemed to be fully healed. But, when Rath woke up, things quickly turned chaotic. Is anyone with Michael’s genes prone to do that?

Basically, Rath broke out of his makeshift handcuffs and kidnapped me at knifepoint. I didn’t think he would hurt me after healing me last night, but I wasn’t sure, so I went with him. Just as Kyle used some strange new powers (I have to talk to him later to find out what happened to him over the summer!) to blast open the door to the apartment that Rath had used his powers to seal, Rath stole a car, locked me inside with him, and drove away.

And, somehow, Max managed to sleep through all of that! Later, I found out that Tess had Dreamwalked him to inform him that she was leaving town and to warn him not to try and find her. Personally, I think good riddance to bad rubbish. If they need a fourth, they have Ava. And now I have the confusion that is Rath...

Watcher's Diary #8

There has been another casualty among us, and this time it hits much more closely to home. Amy Madison is dead. Sometime during the night, she fell into unconsciousness again, and she never woke up. Jeffery blames himself. He thinks she was protecting him and his fledgling powers from whatever sucked their powers when they tried to magic Spike. Xander blames himself, as well. He asked Isabel Evans to help heal her, like Max supposedly healed Liz Parker, but it didn’t work. Amy was probably too far gone for Isabel to heal, but Xander worries maybe Isabel’s attempts harmed Amy even more. And, Jeffery was not afraid to accuse him of such. Xander is quite depressed. I only hope that Cordelia can help him see the light. She seems devoted enough to her new fiancé.

For his part, Doyle blames everyone else for his long-time girlfriend’s death. He ran from the hospital upon hearing the news (after helping Jeffery berate Xander), and no one has seen him since. And I blame myself, as well. I was the one who asked Amy and Jeffery to do the spell on Spike. Granted, I would not have wanted her to continue if I had known what it cost her to do the spell, but she did not tell me.

I will miss Amy desperately. She was my first, and best, American friend. I knew her long before I was a Watcher. I cannot believe she is gone. And that leaves poor Jeffery, so recently robbed of his father, completely alone in the world. We will all be in mourning for a long time.

Journal Entry #8

I did it again! The good girl part of me is so ashamed, but the bad girl part of me enjoyed it. Rath and I made out on the side of the road in a stolen car. There is something inside him that is more than he has been in the past, I can tell. But, I’m not sure if he can tell. And, I am sure that Michael and the others can’t tell.

We traded one stolen car for another in the parking lot at UFOnics, and then we headed for Blue Moon Canyon. I hoped we could hide there for a while. Rath saved my life, and even if I’m not sure what to make of him or our relationship, I’m not going to let the others hurt him. And then he saved my life again. We stumbled upon Loni and that guy from last night, Spike. It turns out Spike is a vampire. I don’t know how he was walking around in the daytime, but there you go. I couldn’t fight him, but Rath could and saved me from being Spike’s midmorning snack. When Loni showed up, I could see how much her lack of caring hurt Rath. I snuck away, not wanting to be caught by either a vamp or an evil alien, and Rath followed me, leaving her (I guess she’s his ex now?) to fend for herself with Spike.

We caught a ride back to Roswell from an English tourist named Thomas Jenkins, though Rath thinks that name was a lie. All was well until the sheriff and Michael, Kyle, Dawn, and Ava caught up with us. Ava blew Thomas’s tire and almost crashed the car. Then the sheriff came out, gun drawn. I tried to get them to calm down and told them how Rath saved my life AGAIN, but I don’t know if they will ever have open enough minds to believe he can change. At least I was able to convince them that he did not deserve to go back to jail. Michael wasn’t willing to just let Rath go, so they are going to rehabilitate him (hopefully, Isabel and Max will agree to the idea). Rath will be joining Michael and Dawn in Michael’s apartment. If this keeps up, Michael is going to have to get a bigger place!

There is a part of me that is glad Rath is not leaving town. I don’t think he’s glad, though. But, at least this is better than him going to jail, right? But if I wake up some morning and Rath is gone, I won’t be at all surprised.

Watcher's Diary #9

After my discussions with Nikki this afternoon, I went to Xander’s apartment. He and Cordelia were there. It turns out that he lives in the same complex as Michael Guerrin. I suppose Roswell doesn’t have that many apartment complexes to chose from. My luck, Maria DeLuca or that Glory person or Sheriff Valenti will end up living in my complex!

It was at Xander’s apartment that I found out what had happened to Amy. I was trying to take that in without falling completely to pieces, when Jeffery showed up as well. He and Xander are not getting along. The fact that Jeffery has the Madison-family talent for magic and that a blood transfusion back in Sunnydale (after a vampire raid on the hospital’s blood supply) made Xander a werewolf/Slayer hybrid makes this situation all the more dangerous. To give Jeffery credit, I could tell that he wanted to mend things with Xander. But he couldn’t give enough, and Xander wasn’t willing to apologize for anything. Neither lad was willing to bend. This rift could be serious.

Imagine our surprise, while all this was going on, to discover that Buffy had come with Jeffery. He saw her downtown and gave her a lift to Xander’s to find us. She says that she is well again, that Giles and Willow were able to cure her. I haven’t had a chance to call Giles and find out his side of the story. She’s been somewhat nervous since she got back, but, considering that Faith is avoiding us again, Buffy’s return may be fortuitous.

Isabel and Max also showed up at Xander’s apartment, looking for me. They wanted to beg a ride. However, before we could leave, all the issues that have been pending for a while came bubbling to the surface. Things climaxed when I asked the Evans siblings one last time to level with us, to return the favor of trust we showed them by telling them the truth about vampires. Apparently, Xander knows the truth about them, and it’s not that they are sorcerers. Or, at least, if they are sorcerers, that’s not all they are. But, they refused again to tell us the truth. I could not offer them a sufficient enough reason to trust us. This saddens me greatly. I had hoped they would prove strong allies in the fight we wage nightly. But, it is not to be. I don’t want to target them as evil doers. We have no proof of that. But, as I told Buffy, we cannot go out of our way to help them any longer. They will have to fend for themselves. There are too many questionable things about the Evans siblings and their group of friends. They lie; they consort with Tess Harding, likely our first known super vampire; the cause parks to burst into flame... But, they also heal. They can’t be all bad, can they?

Xander and Jeffery disappeared while I was talking to Max and Isabel. I hope they don’t get into trouble. Cordelia left, as well. At least I know she can keep her head. Before Buffy and I could leave to go to the last known residence of Tess and Spike, Max and Isabel got into some sort of fight. He attacked her green magicks, immobilizing her. Buffy wanted to help her, but how are we to know that they don’t do that all the time? It could be a regular event. Magic chicken, perhaps. Max eventually ran out of power and collapsed. Isabel seemed to be all right. She was alive and conscious when we left, anyway.

Once we finally got away from the complex, Buffy and I realized we needed to stop by my apartment for food and weapons before heading on to Tess’s house. There, I found a garbled message from Faith on my cell phone. I paged her. She called back not on my cell but at my apartment. Obviously, she didn’t want to talk to me in person. Sadly, I was in the closet, and couldn’t get to the phone before Faith hung up. At least I know that she is OK...

Journal Entry #9

After leaving Thomas and Dawn in the care of Sheriff Valenti, Michael, Kyle, Rath, Ava, and I squished in the Jeep and drove to Max’s house. His parents are out of town for the weekend. Michael finally reached Maria on the phone. She is supposed to find Max and Isabel and meet us here.

While Michael was on the phone, Kyle and Ava talked in the foyer. They always have their heads together lately. Kyle is very protective of her, too. Granted, he’s protective of me, as well. I don’t know what’s with him lately. He’s much more aggressive than he used to be, at least, more aggressive than he used to be anywhere but on the football field.

Rath and I talked a little. I still think he might just up and disappear one of these days. He could disguise his appearance enough so that no one would recognize him. He showed me. Part of me doesn’t want him to leave, but I would understand when he did. Gosh, I’m dreading seeing Max again. I haven’t really talked to him since... I don’t know. Maybe since that night on the football field? Or the next day at school? We never got to have that DTR I wanted to have at the football party. I know we’re not together anymore, and I don’t think I want to be, but I’m scared of what he’ll say if he finds out about my make-out sessions with Rath. I’m scared of what they all will say.

Everything was calm. Michael came and said that the others were on their way. Then Ava started screaming and freaking out. Something freaked Rath out, too, but he’s not the screaming type. They were able to sum up their freak outs in one word. Zan. According to them, he was scanning for them with his powers. And he found them. It will take him a while to get from New York to Roswell, but he can track them with his powers. Apparently, Zan is, like, the uber-alien. He can do anything that any of the others can do, and he can do it better. Michael and Kyle tried to console Ava. We’ve got more people on our side. She said that didn’t matter, that Zan is "da sh*t" and we wouldn’t be able to stop him. That’s when Rath pulled out his little surprise.

Because both Kyle and I were healed, brought back from the edge of death, by an alien (in my case, twice), now we’ve been changed. We’ve got powers of our own. I knew Kyle’s floating beads and exploding doors couldn’t be explained by a summer in the monastary! But, I don’t want powers! I just want to be me. Rath says he can teach me how to use them, so I’ll be able to help fight Zan when he gets here. I guess I have to try, but this is scary. A big part of me hopes that Rath is wrong, but a little voice inside keeps telling me that he’s right.

Watcher's Diary #10

It has been an afternoon of Slayers. I dropped Buffy off to go on her Spike hunt, and before I could accomplish anything else on my "to-do" list, Faith called me. She found a young man named Ben, who used to share a body with Glory. He was full of inside information. Glory is a hell god cursed to live in the body of a human. But somehow she found a way to separate them, so now she is strolling around Roswell without any harness whatsoever. Ben wants to help us save the world from his "sister." She is apparently after something called "the key" which will allow her to open a portal back to her hell dimension, bringing literal hell on Earth in the process. Ben left to go find out what he could, but he promised to keep us all in the loop.

After that, Faith and I paid a visit to Wesley Windham Price's motel room. I decided that we needed to bury the hatchet and enlist his aid. This Glory situation -- coupled with the super vampire problem and the Evans issues -- is too much for one Watcher to handle. And Wesley was actually pretty decent, since he wasn't overtly antagonistic this time. I shared information with him (Buffy and Faith's beeper numbers, Xander's home number, etc.) so that he will be in the loop in Roswell.

On a personal note, we stumbed upon the room of one Lindsey McDonald -- a former associate of Zeke's. Cordelia's car was also seen in the parking lot. As the motel manager said only two rooms were vacant, I must wonder what Miss Chase was doing in there with Mr. McDonald...

Faith left while Wesley and I were still talking. She went to try and find the monks Ben told us about. He said the monks had hidden this "key" somewhere in Roswell. At the monk's lodgings, however, Faith came upon a bloodbath. The monks have all been slaughtered. Ben and Buffy happened upon the scene and different times, as did Lindsey. Lindsey professed a desire to help with the Glory situation. Faith and Buffy seem to believe him, at least a bit. After deciding there was nothing they could do for the monks now, the foursome repaired to the Crashdown Cafe for dinner, where they ran into Wesley.

As for other members of our group, tonight is the full moon. As a half-werewolf, Xander will have his issues, but Oz, of course, has more. He ran into Xander around the time of his change, and now Xander is on werewolf patrol.

Before meeting up with Faith, Buffy had an altercation of her own. She ran into a vampire who looked just like Isabel Evans consorting with Spike. Later, she found the real Isabel Evans and Ava, the girl who looks just like Tess Harding. There was a mild scurmish, but nothing permanent happened.

Things got dicey at Roswell's new club, Area 52, this evening. It was a full moon, and Oz did not lock himself up in time. He showed up on the hunt for nubile young teenagers, but thanks to the efforts of some of our group, he was thwarted, if not captured. Thanks to a timely spell by Jeffery (who is learning some quite powerful stuff lately) all civilians will remember the battle as a rabid, wild dog attack accompanied by some gang members on PCP. Handy, that.

As for me, when I left Wesley's motel room, it was to go find Xander. I did not get very far before I saw Spike and the woman I thought was Isabel. It turns out, her name is Loni, and she is not Isabel. She is a vampire. A super vampire, in fact. If only I can get out of this one and let the others know the truth about this Isabel look-alike...

Journal Entry #10

Our afternoon wasn't very eventful after last night. We tried and tried to have a meeting, but people kept wandering in and out. Finally, Isabel took charge and we came up with a plan. We will meet together and have "classes" to teach each other about using these wacky alien powers -- this will help me and Kyle, and it will also help the others learn to do other things. Ava and Rath, especially, have much to teach to help us prepare for Zan's arrival. Isabel is currently trying to find one of the members of Buffy and Aidan's group to teach us self-defense, which will help with both the Zan situation and the vampires that we now know are prowling about out there. I think she is going to ask Xander. I wonder what his girlfriend will think of that one... but I know that I am not the one to be snide about things like that.

After the meeting was finally over, Max offered to drive me home so I can beg my parents' forgiveness for being gone so long. We finally got to talk... It was hard. He knows about me and Rath and the kissing. He got flashes of it when he healed Rath's hand. And some other, scarier flashes, about Rath being abused (sexually) by Zan. Poor Rath! Max and I talked, and I think we have agreed to be friends, which makes me happy. I know this is selfish, but even though we're not together, I would hate it if Max wasn't in my life at least a little bit...

The only other things of note were that Michael and Maria were pretty chummy all afternoon. I guess things are good there. And Kyle bought Ava a rose. I think my ex is going courting!

The evening, though, was very eventful. After I got home and smoothed things over with my parents (or, rather, lied incredibly well to them), I saw Thomas, Faith, Buffy, Ben, and Lindsey disappearing behind the UFO Museum. I followed them. Turns out, Thomas's real name is Wesley, and he's a Watcher like Aidan! He knows all about Slayers and stuff. Our conversations were interrupted by a woman named Glory. Or, rather, a hell goddess. She wants to take over the world, and, surprise, her "brother" Ben wants to do the same thing. He had apparently duped Faith, Buffy, etc. into believing he wanted to help, but what he really wanted to do was get Glory out of the way so he could take over. Glory held me hostage when I tried to use my new powers on her. She is *powerful*. Somehow, I called Rath with my mind and he *teleported* himself to the alley. It was gross. His organs came first, then bones, then skin, then clothes. I didn't know they could do that! He helped rescue me, and Lindsey and Wesley used a magic teleportation (as opposed to alien) to get us out of there. But, due to a protection spell, Lindsey didn't teleport with us. Afterwards, Faith left to go get drunk, and the rest of us (me, Rath, Buffy, and Wesley) left to go try and find Lindsey. We're hoping to rescue him before Glory kills him or something, but it's difficult. We don't know where to look for them. And, also, Rath and I have more issues. Wesley and Buffy think our powers come from being sorcerers (Max's cover story from earlier). How do we help without letting them know that the powers come from somewhere else entirely and blowing the aliens' whole cover story?
